Counseling Via Teletherapy
You may have responsibilities that prevent you from being able to come to a therapy office every week. You may travel for your job, live far from a therapist, or have a medical challenge. You may also find you are more comfortable being in your own home. For any of these reasons telehealth might be right for you.
I am currently licensed to provide teletherapy to residents of California, Connecticut, Delaware, Iowa, and Florida. To find out more about Florida's telehealth policies you can go here

Teletherapy FAQs

What Happens In a Teletherapy Session?

The same things that would happen in an in person session happen during a teletherapy session. You and I log on and see eachother and then get talking about your challenges and goals. When the 50 minutes is up the session is over.

Is It Safe and Secure?

Yes. I use a HIPAA compliant teletherapy platform system. You can find more information about it here . I typically wear wireless headphones so that only I can hear you and I am always in a room with a closed door, just like face-to-face therapy. I suggest the same for you. You can also download a free 'white noise' app to put on your phone so no one will be able to hear you.

Can We Do Teletherapy Anywhere?

Yes. Anywhere you find confidential, comfortable, have an internet connection, and a phone with a camera or laptop with a camera.

Is It As Helpful As In Person Therapy?

Studies have shown that teletherapy is as effective as in person therapy. However, everyone has different preferences. Take a look here at some of the potential advantages of teletherapy.

I Have Roomates, Won't They Hear Me?

Not necessarily. You can schedule sessions when they aren't home, try a white noise app and headphones, or try a different location. I've done teletherapy when clients were in their parked car, private library study room, out in nature, airport lounges, hotel rooms, and all over the world. Most of the time they are able to find a quiet space for 50 minutes.

Does It Cost More Than In Person Therapy?

No. It does not cost more. It is the same fee either way.

What Equipment Do I Need For Each Session?

All you need is a phone, tablet, or laptop with a camera and internet connection. You can choose to use headphones, a white noise app, or anything else that makes you feel comfortable.

What Are The Benefits of Teletherapy?

Teletherapy helps you heal and grow in a space you feel comfortable with. This may help you process difficult emotions or memories. You get to choose the surroundings you feel support your emotional health, whether that's your home, out in nature, or wherever your favorite or comforting place is.

Do You Record Any Sessions?

No, never. If you are ever interested in recording them yourself, we can talk about how to do that.
Who Should Not Use Teletherapy?

Anyone who is in an active crisis or who has serious suicidal thoughts. Those situations are best left to in-person therapy.

Does Insurance Cover Telehealth Sessions?
It depends on the insurance provider. I recommend calling the number on the back of your insurance card to ask them what is covered. Some insurance companies only pay for video sessions while others will pay for phone and/or video.
